Driving Directions to Portage Glacier:
Take the Seward Highway south from Anchorage.
Take a left on Portage Glacier Road (milepost 78.9) approximately 48 miles out of Anchorage.
Travel 5 miles to fork in road, take the right-hand fork to travel 1-1/2 miles to the mv Ptarmigan dock and passenger building.
Portage Glacier Cruise Only

Approximately 1-hour cruise. Do you have your own transportation? Portage Glacier is truly worth the drive. Cruising on the mv Ptarmigan, you'll stand just 300 yards from a relic of the Ice Age and watch for chunks of ice to break off the glacier and crash into the water below.
Portage Glacier Cruise Tour

Approximately 4 hours. Travel along the scenic Seward Highway to Portage Glacier. Stop at the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center to see the glaciology exhibits. Then board the mv Ptarmigan for an unforgettable 1-hour cruise across Portage Lake. On the way back to Anchorage, stop at Alyeska Resort for a 1-hour lunch on your own and an optional tram ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska.
